ONE MUSEUM

CONNECTS PAST AND PRESENT, NATURE AND CULTURE, PEOPLE AND THEIR CITY.

PROJECT INTRODUCTION

The cultural garden design for the Legion of Honor Museum explores a speculative and iterative approach to landscape design, integrating cultural arts and ecology to foster modern living within a dynamic hybrid landscape. This design process uncovers and celebrates the site’s hidden semiotic features through the medium of landscape.

Using "parti" as a tool, the design investigates how to effectively narrate the story of the site in a manner that is clear, legible, and intuitive. By experimenting with the initial nine design concepts under three "partis", I gained a deeper understanding of how semiotic elements can enhance and communicate the design's overarching narrative.

The "parti" for my final design is based on the rectangle, inspired by the layout of the existing building. This geometric framework serves as a key element to emphasize my design concept, “One Museum.” The concept aims to seamlessly connect the inside and outside, history and present, art and nature, creating a holistic space where visitors can uncover the unseen or easily overlooked elements that form the unique identity of the site.
